Significance of Internet of Things

The Internet of Things (IoT) describes the network of physical objects, so known as, "things" that are embedded with sensors, software, and other technologies that is used for the purpose of connecting and exchanging data with other devices and systems over the Internet.
Things have evolved due to the convergence of multiple technologies, real-time analytics, machine learning, ubiquitous computing, commodity sensors, and embedded systems. Traditional fields of embedded systems, wireless sensor networks, control systems, automation (including home and building automation), and others all contribute to enabling the Internet of things. In the consumer market, IoT technology is most synonymous with products pertaining to the concept of the "smart home", including devices and appliances (such as lighting fixtures, thermostats, home security systems and cameras, and other home appliances) that support one or more common ecosystems, and can be controlled via devices associated with that ecosystem, such as smartphones and smart speakers. The IoT can also be used in healthcare systems.
There are a number of serious concerns about dangers in the growth of the IoT, especially in the areas of privacy and security, and consequently industry and governmental moves to address these concerns have begun including the development of international standards.
The Internet of Things (IOT) is an organised setup of hardware embedded with sensors, software, and other technologies for the purpose of connecting and exchanging data with other devices and systems over the internet. This setup of various hardwares and softwares networked enables the interaction, collection and excahnge of data among them IOT has empowered healthcare sector to monitor, interact, collect and exchange the data among the various related departments.
Tasks such as remote patient monitoring, treatment progress observation and the housing of vaccines are all capabilities of medical devices with integrated IoT. The special embedded sensor in these IOT devices proves them smart and assists in changing healthcare sector facilitating the better service towards the community. The article, The Internet of Things in the healthcare industry, published in Deloitte, reveals that “preventable readmissions cost the health care system approximately $17.5 billion annually.”
Remote patient monitoring, a crucial benefit of IoT in healthcare, can “save up to $36 billion globally over the next five years,” mentioned in the same article. Here are few examples of how IOT conncted devices faciliated and eased the consultation, treatment, aiding healthcare. Virtual hospitals/wards, Wearable biosensors, Smart thermometers, Glucose monitoring, smart watch monitoring connected inhalers Ingestible sensors Robotic surgery connected contact lenses.
